The Long Term Research Project (SFB) 'Modernity: Vienna and Central Europe around 1900' is an active, interdisciplinary research project that was founded in September 1994. It includes the following disciplines: Philosophy, History (Contemporary History, Austrian History), Literary Studies, Musicology, History of Art and Sociology.
The field of research is centered around the creative milieu of the "Viennese Modernity" (approx. 1870-1930). This basis shall, however, also offer conclusions for the current discourse about modernity in an over-all modern context i.e. for a philosophical, aesthetical and socio-scientific discussion about modernity and postmodernity.
The transdisciplinary approach and thus the resulting variety of different academic disciplines shall thereby be made highly prolific for current debates.
