Accommodation
Participants, for whom accommodation will be pre-arranged and who are notified separately, will be staying at the
IBIS Hotel,
which is located close to the train station. From there it's a 15 minutes walk to the university.
The address of the hotel is:
Furtmayrstrasse 1, D-93053 Regensburg, Germany
All other participants will have to make their own hotel arrangements.
Other hotels in the vicinity of the university, apart from the IBIS hotel, are:
Hotel Wiendl
Star Inn Hotel
Hansa Apart Hotel
Stadthotel in Regensburg
Hotel Apollo (this hotel is close to the university but rather far from the city centre).
From each of these hotels, it's a 10-20 minutes walk to the conference venue, and they are easily reached from the train station.
There is a number of hotels in the beautiful old town area, from which it takes some 15-20 min. by bus to the university.
For information and reservations, inquire at the Regensburg Tourist Office reservation website.
Transportation
Regensburg has frequent train connections to Munich (and Munich airport) and other parts of Germany. There are direct ICE (high-speed train) connections to Frankfurt Airport and to Vienna.
For information on train connections and schedules, please go to the Deutsche Bahn website at www.bahn.de.
The closest airports to Regensburg are Munich/München (MUC), with direct flights to most major European cities and many overseas destinations, and Nuremberg/Nürnberg (NUE), which is served mainly by domestic lines.
From Munich airport there are two ways to get to Regensburg: (1) by train or (2) by shuttle bus.
(1) Take bus no. 635 from the airport to Freising - train station (Bahnhof). From Freising, there are direct trains once every hour to Regensburg. Total travel time is about 1 h 40 mins.
The one-way ticket costs about 20 Euros and should be bought at the Deutsche Bahn counter on the airport or from a ticket machine.
Groups of 2 to 5 persons can travel with the so-called Bayernticket, which costs 28 Euros and is valid from 9 a.m. for the whole day (on weekends from 0 a.m.).
For schedules and other train information go to www.bahn.de.
(2) The more costly, though usually more conveniant option is a shuttle bus which operates from Munich airport to Regensburg and vice versa. The bus will bring you directly to your hotel, and pick you up from there.
The ride takes some 60 minutes (additionally there might be some waiting time at the airport; it functions almost like a dolmuş taxi).
It costs 38 Euros one way (if you are two or more persons with the same destination, or point of departure on the return trip, you get a discounted rate).
If you want to use the shuttle bus, operated by Airportliner, you need to make an advance reservation a couple of days prior to your arrival. For detailed information go to the
Airportliner homepage.
From Nuremburg airport:
Take the metro from the airport to the central train station (Hauptbahnhof); there are direct trains to Regensburg every hour or even more frequently. Total travel time is some 90 minutes.
Transportation in Regensburg:
Regensburg is a rather small town so walking is a good option. The university, which is located at the edge of the city, is connected with the train station and the city center (old town) by buses (however, it is also only a 15-20 mins walk from the train station to the campus).
For routes and schedules go to bus schedule (only in German).
Tickets are sold on the bus and at some stations, at vending machines.
